The Silent Struggle: Mothers Battling Loneliness

The loneliness of motherhood is hardly ever spoken about despite being a reality. While loneliness in itself as a societal problem is widely spoken about, the relationship between motherhood and loneliness is one shrouded in secrecy.

Society expects new mothers to be joyful and grateful. Any negative feeling is seen as being unsuited to what is, almost, a fairytale expectation for ALL new mothers to be ecstatically happy. While many, many mothers are, indeed, elated, as I was, this isn’t the complete story of motherhood. This blog post is aimed at those mothers struggling with loneliness.

Motherhood shame often stops women from talking about the lonely path they walk. Where they face a silent struggle. Despite being surrounded by their families, loneliness can creep into the lives of mothers, leaving them feeling isolated and disconnected from the world. Motherhood brings enormous changes which can be overwhelming to navigate.

The arrival of a new baby is a time of great joy, but it can also be incredibly isolating.
