Remember To ‘Touch’ The World

The world beyond nappies, homework, swimming classes and birthday parties was there before you became a mother and will be there, still, once your kids no longer need your attention with the same intensity as they grow up.

I constantly remind mothers of this in my blog because I was once guilty of not realising this. The theme of my mothering would read like this – intensive mothering with heavy overtones of helicopter mothering. I kind of forgot myself in all this and ignored my own needs and wants.

My house of mothering came crashing down like something from a remake of a J.B. Priestley play when my daughter left home. I was depressed for months and just about managed to function. It was a stark reminder of my foolishness for not having taken time out to nurture myself.

See a friend, watch a non kid movie, drink that cocktail, apply for that promotion if you are working, don’t shy away from taking up voluntary roles which fit around your mum schedule.

Whatever you do remember to ‘touch the world’.

Have a good week.
