Goji Berries, The Red Jewel Of A Superfood With a Big Punch For Busy Mothers

Do you eat anything at hand because of your busy mum life? You make sure that your kids eat well and get their 5 a day of superfoods but what about you?

I know the feeling because I was that mum once. I would even eat what I knew wouldn’t give me enough energy because it was the easiest and quickest thing to grab and gobble down. The solution is to find something that you can literally chuck into your porridge, yoghurt and, even, drinks and which packs a punch.

Goji berries are my ‘chuck and go’ latest discovery. This arose from a chance meeting with an eye doctor who told me Goji berries can be a beneficial addition to a busy woman’s diet. The berries are packed with nutrients, including vitamins A and C, iron, and antioxidants, which can help boost energy levels, support the immune system, and potentially improve sleep.

These benefits can be particularly helpful for mothers who are juggling the demands of motherhood with other responsibilities.

For the last week, I have been chucking a handful of these ripe and red berries in the mornings into a teacup of warm water and sipping it for an hour and sprinkling it into my cereal too. I also add Chia seeds and can testify that this makes a delicious and attractive to eat and drink breakfast.

My mornings have taken on a a warm and cosy experience with a feeling of almost being a religious ritual.

These little red jewels have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. They’re rich in antioxidants, packed with vitamin C, and contain beta-carotene (the same stuff that makes carrots good for your eyes). Some studies even suggest they can support immune health, improve sleep, and help with energy levels.

Personally, I love them because they’re such an easy snack. Throw them into porridge, mix them into a trail mix, or even steep them in hot water for a fruity tea. They’re slightly sweet, slightly tangy, and definitely more exciting than another handful of crisps.

Are they a miracle cure? No. But adding a small handful of goji berries into your week is a simple way to layer more nutrients into your diet. And isn’t that what wellness is really about—tiny steps that add up over time?

So, here’s my challenge for you: pick up a bag of goji berries and see how many ways you can sprinkle them into your meals. Your body (and tastebuds) might just thank you.

P/S: I am not a nutritionist and am only recommending what works for me but my research on Goji berries has come up with the following caveat: Goji berries may trigger an allergic reaction in rare cases, especially in individuals who are allergic to other fruits. Additionally, Goji berries may interact with certain drugs, including blood thinners and medications for diabetes or high blood pressure.
