The Russian journalist’s staged death is almost a Hollywood parody

A Russian journalist, Arkady Babchenko, who lives in Kiev was reportedly murdered by Russian forces earlier this week for his frank and outright reporting. Much to everyone’s shock, especially his wife’s, he appeared the next day surrounded by Ukrainian security personnel who had set up a sting to, allegedly, foil the Russians who wanted to murder him. It is a situation that would be outright comical and straight out of a Hollywood movie if it did not have serious repercussions.

If fake news can undermine the West as Russia wants? Fake news can be used to defeat Russian aggression. Remember Ukraine and Russia are at war with each other, although they do not admit it. As far as Ukraine is concerned it is a victory against the Russians. I do not believe they even thought of other consequences. Russia,s ways have to be countermanded, how do we do that?

      Hi Nigel,
So sorry for the late reply to your comment. Fake news is a right wing invention as I see it to undermine democracy and, ultimately, defeat it. Fake news is a self-defeating strategy as the exposure of Cambridge Analytica has shown us. How to counter Russia’s ways? Through governance structures?
      What do you think?
      thanks
      Jane
